The man replied jokingly, "No, it's just liquefied plastic with sugar in it."
The boy scrunched up his features, thinking about the statement. And then, he began to read the ingredients section of the syrup bottle. Finally, he smiled and replied, "Its syrup, and it has high fructose corn syrup like they all do."
The man conceded defeat in his little mischievous mind bender and smiled.
Halloween 2009 was great fun. Laura and I went to Party City to try to see what we could do to match relatively. I went as a Dark Sith Lord, and Laura went as a Winged Vampire Mistress. The party was at the Nieto's and we had a great time.
Here I am in my defensive posture as a Sith Lord:
The funnest part about being a Sith Lord was seeing the reactions to the people on the public transit. Some people asked questions, most gave me funny looks, then looked away.
Katie Lady and Miss Laura as they call each other, enjoying the party.
That costume Cost Tim close to $300 and it was a pretty gruesome sight.
Ayo, Leon, and Nate making "Edible Kitty Litter" it comes in a cat litter box and it is quite tasty. I don't know how they make it but, I recommend it at any party. Yum, Yum!
"After going through what I have been through in trying to cancel my membership with LA Fitness, it came to my mind that MOST CERTAINLY I cannot be the only person who has gone through this!" (Travis)
LA Fitness is a scam. I have the bank statements that show three overdrafts at the end of April at $25 totaling $75. My contract also states that I will be billed on the first of the month. When I was billed three times before the first of the month it resulted in an overdraft and a breach of contract.
"Case in point: If you sign up at LA Fitness, be aware that it's going to take World War 3 in order to end the membership. Save your money and your sanity and go ANYWHERE else." (The Joshua Tree)
To make matters worse, on 07/01/08 I have two overdrafts at $25 totaling $50. I have a printed cancellation receipt dated 05/02/08. My contract states that I need a 30 day prior notice to the cancellation date. That makes my effective cancellation 06/31/08. On the way out the door they burn me again. Most recently, my girlfriend just got charged for a month's worth of training fees that never happened.
"LA Fitness may be adequate for working out, but when it comes to account management, they are used car salesmen at best." (Detta)

Here is a little quiet time and meditation I had on this book and chapter. For me I had to do a little bit of digging to make it come to life for me. My intention is not to preach to anyone who reads this (if you get some encouragement then great). I hope that anyone who reads this may offer some additional sources, links to articles and suggested readings. That is why I am posting it as a blog.
"Chapters 1-8, the prophet's encouragement to the people to finish the work of rebuilding the Temple." (Illustrated dictionary of the Bible)
"In a series of eight symbolic night visions that came to the prophet (1:7-6:8), Zechariah encourages the people to finish this important task. These visions are followed by a coronation scene (6:9-15), in which a high priest named Joshua is crowned as priest and king, symbolizing the Messiah who is to come. This is considered one of the classic Messianic prophecies of the Old Testament." (Illustrated dictionary of the Bible)
Chapter 4 is "The Golden Lampstand and Olive Tree" "Chapters 1-8 Zechariah tells us, were delivered as prophecies" (Illustrated dictionary of the Bible)

Iraq spends oil revenues on its own reconstruction:
Last fall, as Gen. David H. Petraeus, the top American commander in Iraq, and Ryan C. Crocker, the American ambassador to Iraq, reported to Congress on the state of the war, the Bush administration provided figures that contrasted sharply with those of the accountability office. The administration reported that by July 2007, Iraq had spent 24 percent of the $10 billion in oil revenue set aside for reconstruction that year.
The accountability office disputed those figures, saying they were based in part on projections that proved inaccurate. But in a recent phone interview, a senior Iraqi official gave even more bullish estimates of the expenditures. Citing official Iraqi Finance Ministry figures, the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity in order to provide information that had not yet been publicly released, said by the end of last year, Iraq had spent 63 percent of its capital budget, a leap over the previous year that would indicate rapid progress in governmental efficiency.
Finally, Senators Levin and Warner ask the question looming over the entire rebuilding effort: "Why has the Iraqi government not spent more of its oil revenue on reconstruction, economic development and providing essential services for the Iraqi people?" (Glanz NYT) Link
American tax payers are paying for reconstruction in Iraq:
The Bush administration's Iraq policy has already imposed significant costs for Americans. In fact, U.S. taxpayers have spent over $600 billion in Iraq, including about $48 billion for stabilization and reconstruction activities. According to the GAO report, the Iraqi government has generated over $90 billion in sales of crude oil from 2005 to 2007 and will generate close to that amount in 2008 alone.
The Government of Iraq's failure to adequately invest in its own population and infrastructure is a direct byproduct of President Bush's failed strategy in Iraq. An American military occupation has not created meaningful political progress, and the Government of Iraq has allowed U.S. taxpayers to foot the bill for rebuilding Iraq. (Waters) Link
Halliburton HAS been exploiting its ties to the US Government:
The three-way division of the largest Pentagon contract in Iraq ends the monopoly held by KBR, which has been accused of mismanagement and exploiting its political ties to Vice President Dick Cheney. (Risen NYT) Link
It IS about Middle-East oil:
HOUSTON (AP) — Halliburton, the oil field services company, said Monday that its emphasis on Middle Eastern markets had contributed to a nearly 5 percent increase in fourth-quarter profit.
The company has been adding people and equipment to the Middle East and elsewhere — even moving its top executive overseas — which it says helped Eastern Hemisphere sales grow 27 percent in the fourth quarter versus a year ago.
Halliburton said results were squeezed by higher costs and lower pricing in North America, a trend that also hindered a rival, Schlumberger, and could persist.
Net income in the fourth quarter rose to $690 million, or 75 cents a share, compared with $658 million, or 64 cents a share, in the period a year ago. (NYT) Link
My name is Joshua Kimball and I am an avid blogger and a registered voter (I) who just moved into your district. I am sending you this to let you know about the issues that I will be voting for and what I will be blogging about leading into the next election. I have nothing against any party or elected official, this is more of a FWI than anything else. I have been a Full-Time student for the last three years and due to the recent budget cuts I lost government aid that would have normally allowed me money for living expenses while attending school. Government aid for schooling will be a very big hot button for me. Also, while in school I briefly enjoyed AHCCCS Health Insurance for about eight months. Now DES has cut me loose and when I apply for an extension it takes them six months to even respond. What they tell me is that I missed a deadline that should have been met, of course because they can't tell me until months after the deadline. That means having a budget to properly staff the DES office is very big on my agenda. I honestly don't care about the war that costs us $60+ billion dollars in the Middle East if we can't take care of American citizens at home. Let the Special Forces take out key targets and make it easier for the locals to police themselves. If my funding for financial aid gets cut some more and we are still spending billions of dollars outside the US, it will affect my blogging and voting considerations drastically. I certainly wish you the best, I honestly haven't read anything about your history as a politician and I am looking forward to reading about your accomplishments as my representative in this district.
Six Degrees Of Separation - The Experiment Size: 5,497,076 members
I thought it was interesting and almost comical at the play on words "The Bystander Effect?" One group has less than a thousand members, were as the other has over five million members. So here is a quick comparison contrast to see what makes one more desirable over the other:
In a quick conclusion, although it is interesting that "The Bystander Effect" lives up to its name and definition. What I have taken from the " Six Degrees Of Separation" is a list of five million members representing Modern Western Civilization's values. That is because the group comprises American, Europeans, and anyone else who speaks English of course. What do we commit the majority of our free time to? "Who would have sex with whom?" "If gays should be allowed to adopt?" I am personally concerned for our intellectual community. If we allow ourselves to die intellectually we risk becoming ignoramus. We therefore risk giving up our freedom because we do not learn to argue our positions and problems to our government representatives. I'm certainly not saying that creating discussion topics on social websites are bad. I'm just saying we should see discussion groups of our politicians complaining about how many letters they receive from their districts that dictate the will of the people. I'm saying, before you write a response to a facebook thread. Take five or ten minutes to make one paragraph letter to your local representative once a week stating your opinions of political subjects that will affect their career on the next election. Most of them have a website that you can post that paragraph to.
My girlfriend sent me this link <click here> to an article entitled "Bush Cabinet official target of corruption inquiry." It is about former Interior Secretary Gale A. Norton and her connection to Royal Dutch Shell PLC and the fact that George W. Bush appointed her.
I acknowledge that I am not a political analyst, just an average Joe. Please, feel free to agree or disagree with sources and links. One-liner responses just don't do it for me. I find that I personally rant and rave (not actually shouting) to my girlfriend all the time over this very concept: Oil companies and weapons companies who use government connections to profit. Government workers who help oil companies and weapons companies for financial gain. Didn't Martha Steward go to prison for insider trading? Is there no justice for those who profit from "Insider Warring?"
It goes deeper than that, and I know it has nothing to do with party lines. Here is another company that profits from war. Transguard and they are connected to Halliburton/KBR and many others. Cheney IS connected to Halliburton. Bush IS connected to oil in the Middle East. Don't get me wrong. I am not attacking the Repulican party, or for that matter is my attack on Transguard, Halliburton/KBR. I am attacking the idea of politicians using tax payer money to favor corporations. All corporations will use whatever connection that they have to gain an advantage. But any politician who has a financial interest in a subject that involves making a controlling decision over tax payer's money has a conflict of interest. Any politician (republican, democrat, and libertarian, independent) who encourages our nation to go to war for their financial interest is a warmonger and should be tried for war crimes. So I understand that whoever is in charge is going to get control of the kickbacks for the war profiting.
When the democrats were in charge Bill Clinton bombed Iraq. It just happened that the republicans were in charge for the most recent war fiasco. The important thing to understand is there is money to be made and war is good money. Who cares if the American people have the highest unemployment rate in decades? The war companies who are now global companies don't have to. They have no real connection to our country; accept with the politicians who decide where our tax dollars go. Americans starve while war companies profit: "Transguard Group profits double to $20 million despite global economic climate."
Please don't misunderstand my view points of war, if the United Nations could spare some troops to go down to Sudan to stop the genocide. Then by all means, go to war. Oh, but the oil there belongs to China, more specifically China National Petroleum Corporation and a few other companies. As long as there is money to be made, then the killing just gets ignored. Yes, there IS oil in Sudan.
Like I said before it is not the fault of the corporations in the long run, it is in their nature to gain any advantage. The politicians who take American tax money and give it to a company that will not reinvest back into American soil due to a "conflict of interest" do not represent us as Americans. Vote them out, and then chose another who will represent us. The politicians who have financial interests in places where they have to make decisions on where to take our country to war are committing war crimes. Plain and simple, the fact that we don't have trials right now for those war crimes simply prove how we as American citizens are not free. Our dictators are the highest bidders who pay those who are supposed to represent us.
What is this world coming too when a toy maker is allowed to market a poll dancing doll? I just saw this on the news this morning. Parents introduce dolls to their children as something that they would want their children to aspire to, even if they don’t necessarily always think about it. What next, Doctor Barbie, lawyer Barbie, and exotic dancer Barbie?
Would Disney condone teaching young girls that in order to be popular they have to behave like a stripper, oh, I mean “exotic dancer?” Just because a sixteen year old Miley Cyrus dances on a pole in one of her concerts, does that justify marketing a stripper poll and a doll to kids? When do we draw the line, perhaps when there is a segment on a talk show featuring grade school girls who pole dance?
My personal opinion is that those who have a talent as community organizers should organize a petition with your community and local political representatives to protest the distribution of this doll. Communicate with your local representatives. Ask for financial help to put out advertisements to bring attention to this issue. Most importantly, contact your local media. Nothing gets the attention of a large corporation than bad media exposure.
Here is an excerpt from a book that I am entitling Kal'Luthorian. I hope to use the concept to spark off some short stories that take you into the past of one of my characters in the book. The short stories will be titled "The Kal’Dalrek Chronicles" Enjoy:
“No, but I would show you a history that is about to repeat itself, leading to the deaths of thousands, and perhaps the destruction of your culture.” Kal’Dalrek answered. “So, you may say that it could be comparable to a religious event. It would be easier if I show you, rather than explain it all. May I, I mean you no harm.”
“What do I have to do?” Delri asked, hesitantly. “Close your eyes and open your mind. You may sit, because it may take some time,” Replied Kal’Dalrek.Delri sat down and closed his eyes. As he waited, he tried to clear his mind. He felt a cold feathery touch of Kal’Dalrek’s hands as they cupped at his temples. Slowly, he felt as though he was being pulled into a deep sleep.
When Delri awoke, he instinctively knew that he was in another time. Everything had a haze, as though he was looking through someone’s eyes. His actions were not his own, he was caught up in someone’s thoughts and emotions. It was like a dream, but he was more coherent. In his subconscious he spent the day in the memory of Kal’Dalrek, seeing his children and wife, feeling his love for them, the sweetness of family connection. He saw his duties to the king that he served, felt the friendship and respect between the two men. It was a nation of elves, one of many from the old empires. It was known as the Kalpronnen Empire, which was an empire that Delri knew little about from his history lessons. From Kal’Dalrek’s memories, Delri learned that men of power, both political, religious, or magical were bestowed with the title of Kal, to indicate that they where honored within the empire. So Kal’Dalrek was born and named Dalrek, once upon a time. Momentum began to build, and Delri was swept from scene to scene, showing him messages of disaster. The political climate began to change in the empire throughout Kal’Dalrek’s 450 year lifespan. Intrigue and petty schemes replaced a just system of government. The elven nobles began to covet the power they had. The magical knowledge and artifacts became hidden or stolen. The documented knowledge of the spirit realm was horded away, and political power was coveted at any price. Many civil wars sprung up, all in the name of expanding the power of one faction or the other. Events spanning centuries, flew past Delri quickly. Shadows were shown to be working behind the scenes of the corruption and the destruction. They were said to be called the Mollorrok, an etherean race, able to possess a weak minded person and control them as a puppet. They were once worshipped as gods, in a dark and nearly forgotten time. By the time Kal’Dalrek discovered the identity of his people’s betrayers, it was too late, and he was already a mistrusted outcast. One of the few factions that had survived the wars already had enslaved the rest. Time shifted again, and this time, looking through the eyes of Kal’Dalrek, Delri was in chains. He had been tortured and his magic was disabled. The pain was excruciating. Then a man approached him, showing a sneer on his lips. “Kal’Dalrek, I presume.” He jeered. “Or, great, great, great grandfather. I really didn’t bother to count how many generations. ”You don’t know me, although you should, since I am descended from one of your own sons! How did you manage it? To stay alive for centuries, while your own family grew old and died! Was it painful when your wife and children died, did you learn to detach yourself from the later generations as they stayed mortal while you lived on?”“What do you want from me Lorun?” Delri heard Kal’Dalrek say from his own perspective. “That’s Kal’Lorun to you! I am a man of political power. What I want from you is your power of course! You are the last of the wizards from your order to hold your legacy. I want to live for centuries as you have! Give me this power and your torture will stop, you will be treated well and be given your own room to live out your life in comfort. I only wish to benefit our people, to end the atrocities committed to them.”“You only wish to serve your self and perhaps the Mollorrok?” Kal’Dalrek replied, ceiling his own death sentence. Lorun’s face mottled in rage! A shadowy silhouette lunged at Kal’Dalrek from Lorun’s body, and then seemed to catch itself and recede into its captive. “You found me out, how intelligent of you. You have no allies, I have killed them all, the wizards of your order, your family who was loyal to you. And my disguise, Lorun, he was willing to give himself over to me, for the promise of power, your power. But you will die, slowly, painfully. I will live on through the centuries, and you will sleep with the dead. I will become greater, while you will be no more. Does this make you despair? No? I was there when your wife drank the poison 300 years ago. You thought it was a sickness? No, it was a slow acting poison. I couldn’t have you making any more offspring that could inherit your magical legacy. I was so entertained to see that your grief caused you to never seek another love again. Of all my enemies, you were so hard to kill. Take him away!” Tears of frustration flowed down Kal’Dalrek’s face. He was immediately taken to the lower dungeons and tortured. It was a cycle that lasted for two weeks. Each day, he was given medical care, to prolong his life, so that the torture would continue. One day as various implements were being prodded into him, the pain seemed less and less, and then everything went black.Delri began to awaken from his unconscious state. As he opened his eyes, he discovered that he had been crying, tears streamed his face, and he was sore and cramped from sitting for hours. Kal’Dalrek looked at Delri and said, “Now you know my story, but what you don’t know is that the Mollorrok continue to exist. My country was invaded and conquered and eradicated because after centuries of civil war they were no longer able to defend themselves. The Mollorrok move from empire to empire, sometimes they accomplish what they did to my country. Occasionally, they are discovered and defeated. That magical legacy that Lorun was asking for is just what I want to give to you!”“Why, am I descended from a hero or a king?” Delri became impulsively exited, “or was there a prophecy about me, am I a chosen one? "Kal’Dalrek shook his head and sighed. “I wish that were so, I would feel better about what I am going to give you. The crux of the matter is that, there is no one else. After 500 years of old wives tales about this cave and my entrapment here as a spirit, I have no one to turn to. Everyone is afraid to even come here. Why not give it to you. I wish to slumber, and you are at least a good person. I have read your memories as you have been reading mine.”
I just took a trip to LA last weekend and visited many places. But one of the places I wanted to point out was a "House of Chicken and Waffles" called Roscoe's. I was pretty blown away. The place was so busy, that they had a lot attendant directing traffic in the small parking lot. On the inside if felt like a relaxed environment. As I scanned the menu there were all kinds of "Soul Food" items that I was temped to try. It ranged from "grits" to "gizzards". Not that I was as tempted by the gizzards, but I hope you get the picture. Since the place specialized in chicken and waffles I decided to order a plate of deep fried chicken breast and a waffle. It was so good that I demolished it. I tried my friend's corn bread too. It could have been cake with honey butter as its frosting it was so good. I have to admit that this was my first time ordering deep fried chicken and a waffle at a restaurant. But it was a great treat even if I had to consider it a cheat on my diet.
Recently I have been frequenting a place on Thomas and Central called ZPizza. It has a coffee house connected to it called The Pink Spot. Its a great place to get coffee, ice cream, pizza or salad. All the food is artistic and tastes wonderful! You can also go to listen to folk music. Best of all, the place has free WiFi.
